Fox Creek students apply their leadership and citizenship skills beyond the walls of the classroom, throughout our school and into our community. Collaboration across crews empowers our students to be change makers. They reach out to the community through service learning and personal connections to identify areas of need
and serve others.

Link Crew
“To me, 6th grade Link Crew is a team that contributes the ‘student voice’ to bigger school decisions. Being a part of Link Crew is a responsibility that takes time and effort, means using all of the Habits of Character, and testing your leadership skills. Being a part of the team impacts me because I get to observe the students at my school and the way they act in order to make a group decision. My impact on others is important because we try to be the leaders and role models of the school. I want to leave a strong influence on the other students as I move through my last year at Fox Creek.” Jordan, 6th grade

Kids Caring for Kids with Cancer (KCKC)
"KCKC has taught me that even the littlest bits of compassion can make a huge difference in others' lives. You can do something small like make a Valentine or holiday card to show that you care." Kaleb, 6th grade

Fall projects have included: “Caring Cases” which are pillow cases with encouraging quotes that friends and family of the patient can sign and the patient can read before he/she goes to sleep each night, journals to record the patient’s journey, blank canvases and paint, and encouraging quotes jars. Our holiday project is usually a stocking filled with small gifts along with a “Be Brave” red hoodie or a blanket (for the babies). Valentine’s are created for the patients and staff as well has Starbuck’s gift cards for the nurses, doctors and staff that work with the patients and families to show our thanks. Our end of the year project is always creating a “Giving Tree” when the KCKC students get gift cards for the patients and we let the families choose which ones they want or need off the tree.

First Grade Grandfriends
"Grand friends is so fun! You get to experience a person who you don't really know. It's pretty cool that I get to know an older person. Every time we get to go to Lincoln Meadows I get so excited to see my special grand friend." Faith, 1st grade
We began looking at our learning expedition, Everybody Has a Story and how we could help the kids understand the importance of not only knowing the story elements and applying them to a story in their own life, but for each student to realize the importance of stories to build relationships. We travel to a senior living center where each small group is paired with a grand friend. Students actively listen to the story and take notes. In addition, each grand friend is photographed to help the students with a high quality portrait. Students visit again to revise the story and add any details needed. Lastly, students return for a "Celebration of Learning" where each grand friend is given his/her small moment story and a high quality portrait. Students feel honored that they were given the opportunity and responsibility to accurately tell a story from their grand friend's memory. Grand friends treasure the story and the special portrait.
To continue the relationship, we travel for our Valentine's Day party to celebrate poetry, singing and an art project. Lastly, we return in May to celebrate and honor our grand friends for Memorial Day. Both students and grand friends look forward to these special visits filled with great conversation and joy.
Each visit, the grand friends anxiously await the arrival of their first grade friends. Many eyes light up and smiles appear as our busy group of 75 first graders bustle through the doors. Grand friends dress special for the occasion and look forward to the hugs and special time to visit in various rooms throughout Lincoln Meadows.
