Documentation Panels
"Documentation panels give teacher and students the opportunity to tell the story of the learning that happens in our learning expeditions. It gives a picture of the journey of the teaching and learning in each expedition." Sara Schumacher, teacher
Description:
The walls of our school tell the story of teaching and learning at Fox Creek. The best evidence of these practices is to observe them in action, but we don’t often have that privilege. The next best thing is to interact with the journey of teaching and learning through documentation panels. Collaboratively or individually developed documentation panels at FCE are used as evidence of great teaching and learning.

Summer Institute
“It’s great to have the opportunity to have this extended time without the distractions of the day to day demands of planning, etc. and to just be able to really focus on the things that we are working on and implementing here at FCE.”
Jane Peter, teacher
Description:
Lifelong learning is the foundation of professionalism at FCE. The Leadership Team and Staff Development Committee, along with our School Designer, plan all PD opportunities and monitor our Work Plan. One of the hallmarks of our staff development is our Summer Institute. This is a two or three day learning opportunity for our staff. The Summer Institute provides us an opportunity to focus on professional topics at a time when we are free from the hectic schedule of school and can focus on our own learning.

High Quality Work Protocol
“Breaking the work down and looking at it through the three different lens of craftsmanship, authenticity and complexity really makes you aware of the purpose of the assignment. It’s easy to see craftsmanship in the art room but I’ve realized it’s also necessary to be thoughtful of how authentic and complex the work that you are asking kids to do is.” P.J. Fisher, teacher
Description: Our school does a High Quality Work protocol at least twice a year. Summaries of our past three HQW protocols are available below. In two of these protocols, staff looked closely at student work from all grades in relation to the three attributes of high quality work, complexity, authenticity and craftsmanship. The third HQW protocol involved analyzing the actual assignments and projects that we were assigning to students using the lens of the three attributes of high quality work. The professional development that we then provided to teachers increased the level of complexity, authenticity and craftsmanship seen in our student’s work.
